Listen and Learn
Throughout my 26 years in dentistry, I've always embraced a hands-on approach to learning, especially when it comes to equipment maintenance. I've found that observing and learning from the Patterson repair technician during their visits has been invaluable.
Why not take the opportunity to learn simple repairs when equipment breaks down? For instance, replacing O-rings on couplers and air-water tips is a straightforward task that can save time and money. If a handpiece leaks water from the side, an O-ring replacement is often the solution. Similarly, air-water tips in the operative rooms can sometimes get damaged, requiring a replacement of the collar assembly.
Don't underestimate the power of simply turning equipment off and on again—it often works! Additionally, learning how to change the gasket on your autoclave is another practical skill.
I've learned so much by watching our Patterson repair technician, who I like to call "McGuiver" (if you know, you know). Listening and learning these skills can save you time, money, and stress in the long run.
